I wanna play jazz with finger picking. So would the natural path be to get a classical guitar instruction book and practice with etudes using a metronome? That’s how I practiced classical instrument. Practice for a year then move onto learning how to play codes? Or do I get a how-to book for Acoustic guitar playing? What’s the best path?
FYI I’m just learning as a hobby. I’m new to guitar.
Album name or at least artist.

All the great gypsy jazz guitarist from Django to the Rosenbergs use simple chords; three finger inversions and such because they must quickly move through progressions. The root notes can be implied, and are usually provided by the bassist anyway. So why do people like Romane and Stephane Wrembel insist on making us play chords requiring six fingers on the left hand?

I’m going to college for music (technology) but I have to audition. I’m interested into classical so I’m leaning towards the jazz audition. I play guitar with a flat pic. Is this ok, or is it best to play Jazz guitar fingerstyle?
